Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 Launch Day!

By John Houlihan

Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 launch day is here and we’re really excited to finally share with you nearly two year’s worth of work in this newest incarnation of the game.

This is Achtung! Cthulhu as we’ve always wanted to play it pulpy, cinematic, full of brave heroes, nefarious villains, powerful magic, unholy tomes, bizarre underground temples, strange ceremonies, fearsome monsters, and the sanity-sapping gods and entities of the Cthulhu Mythos themselves.

We hope you’ll check out all the fine selection of books and bundles on the Achtung! Cthulhu Home Page and start delivering some righteous two-fisted justice to the forces of the Nazi occult and the menace of the Mythos, today! You can also see the full Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 Collection here.

Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20 has been a real team effort from Modiphius, from original creator Chris Birch and grand wizard of the rules Nathan Dowdell, through the host of talented writers, artists and illustrators who have bought the words and pictures to life. Then we have the awesome designers and layout artists who’ve made the books look so beautiful, and the logistics and behind-the-scenes support staff who get the books and accessories made and delivered safely into your hands. I’d like to pay tribute to them all in bringing this project to such splendid and unholy life.

Although you’ll get your hands on the Player’s Guide PDF when you pre-order right away, sadly we weren’t quite able to get the Gamemaster’s Guide PDF ready to go for launch, as final proofing and amends are being worked on even as we speak. But it should only be about a month away and anyone who pre-orders will get this delivered automatically into their inbox, the instant it’s finally fit for mortal eyes.

In the meantime, you’ll need some villains and enemies to battle and while there’s some basic Black Sun troopers, a Master and a Servitor in the Quickstart, we’ll be running polls in the Achtung! Cthulhu Facebook group, and on the Modiphius Facebook page to release a couple of NPCs or creatures a week to keep you occupied in the meantime. Head on over, join up today, and say hello to an awesome community of like-minded fans and look out for the first poll and some NPCs to populate your adventures, coming soon!

But in many ways, pre-order is just the beginning and we want to make sure you have plenty to play during this first year of the new Secret War, so starting in April, we’re aiming to release a monthly mission for Achtung! Cthulhu 2d20. Some will be one-offs, and some will be part of the ongoing linked campaign which kicked off in the Quickstart. First up, will be one of Operation Vanguard, Under the Gun, or Seventh Innings Slaughter, and there’s plenty more in the pipeline to keep you busy.

We also want to make sure you have some proper epic campaigns to experience too and we’re going to take a dual track approach. Some will commence at the beginning of the war, for newer players and those who want to start afresh, while others will be set post D-Day for more experienced players and veteran PCs. First up, will be a re-imagination of the epic Shadows of Atlantis for 2d20 written by long standing series veteran Bill Heron, which is set pre-war and makes an ideal starter campaign.

Later in the year comes The Forest of Fear, another mighty campaign set in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge. While Hitler makes his last great throw of the dice to send the western Allies scurrying back into the sea, Operation Brute Strength, a terrifying joint operation within the main offensive is being plotted by both Nachtwölfe and Black Sun. Led by the Franz “the Blackbird” Amsel, this involves terrifying new form of shocksoldat, a lost Elder under city, and an ancient godling stirring in its confinement beneath the forest! You’ll also be able to warm up for the main campaign with a standalone scenario, Assault on the Fuhrer Train, a tasty appetiser for the heroic main course!

We also have six major canon campaigns planned which will take you from the earliest days of the war through to its epic conclusion, as well as a variety of source books and resources, more of which will be revealed soon.,

Don’t suppose that we’ve forgotten Call of Cthulhu fans in the move to the 2d20 system either. We will also be producing a conversion guide to help you port over the best of the new content and lore and you can let us know what you want to see by taking part in our Conversion survey here

That’s all for now, agent, thank you for your attention, we hope you enjoy the game and we’ll see you on the frontline!
