Description

Five Parsecs From Home is a solo adventure wargame where you assemble a ragtag crew of galactic trailblazers and head out to explore the stars, pick up jobs, and every now and then —  engage in some action-packed, sci-fi combat!

Well designed, flexible and easy to learn. Really well done.

I have enjoyed 40k in the past but it was too restrictive and expensive, investing everything in one big themed army. This game allows me to use many of the various miniatures I've collected to play small skirmish games with a long term campaign/levelling up mechanic built in. Great for solo gaming but can be made coop or the system can be applied to a TTRPG setting easily. It's so much more flexible than GW's system and doesn't break my brain. Being a solo game it leans a little more into journaling and I actually like that bit more than the combat phase of the game cause that's where the RPG elements are strongest, the combat phase really serves to give the weapon stats and upgrades more meaning. The combat itself is pretty shallow, which is on purpose and it works for me. Would get boring pretty quick on its own tho. For someone like me who finds 40k fun but painful to keep all the rules in mind, this game scratches the itch without being too taxing. And using a manageable number of miniatures which have characters/personalities associated with them who develop over time gives you the chance to become more invested in particular models, which is great if, like me, that inspires you to give them an even better paint job! All in all, it's amazing how one book which pretty much just says, "sure, they are your models, go for it" unlocks all the fun I have been looking for which GW managed to choke with their profit-before-community mindset. Well done Mr Sorensen!

Changed my mind about solo play

I gave it a try because I didn’t have a gaming group anymore, but still enjoyed painting miniatures. I thought the idea of playing solo sounded horrible, but his game changed my mind. The rule system is lite enough that it isn’t burdensome to manage two forces, and the random events that set the stage for the scenarios create a story that gets more developed the more you play. Highly recommended.

Changed how I play games!!

I’m a story writer. I play games 95% for the story. Solo play was something I got into to stay sane over lockdown, but it actually allowed me to play the games I wanted, in the way I wanted, and have the time and creative space to weave them into my stories.

The post and pre game rolls are as fun and important as the actual game, and the whole thing has inspired me to paint and play in ways I’ve never done. Can’t recommend highly enough. (P.S the expansions are awesome too!)

Really Good

I've really enjoyed playing this.
The book is laid out really well and I like the layout/artwork too.
It is a little complex for my little brain to cope with, but you just have to read the book and work your way through any problems that you come across.
Really cool tables to roll on. Cool enemies. Cool storytelling.
Nice onw

5 parsecs from home

I'm still very new to tabletop wargaming. I picked this up for Christmas, and I'm lovin it so far. I've always been one to like randomness in games, so this is like a dream come true.
It seems like a lot at first, but it gets easier once you run through it a few times.
Lots of fun, lots of variety.
